Woodies At The Rock 2022

Those of you who attended Woodies at the Rock 2022 undoubtedly will agree that this year’s event was another fantastic show.  The annual (post-covid) Harbor Festival in Morro Bay continued on this year as the Makers Market Craft Fair with a reduced footprint but still substantial crowds.  The weather driving down the coast from Cambria Saturday morning was foggy and drizzly almost to the point of rain but turned slightly cloudy and very comfortable later in the day with mild temperatures.

We started the weekend with a few of us meeting up at the McDonalds in Morgan Hill led by our wagon masters. Unfortunately, we had the first of a couple of member breakdowns before the trip when the Alves’ airbag suspension failed to inflate and they were unable to continue the journey south in their woodie. Luckily, they had the Woodie towed home and were able to take their daily driver down to Cambria.  There were also a few woodie owners that experienced car problems and were not able to make it.  The caravan continued down to the Salinas In-and-Out Burger where we were joined by other SCW members.  Next, we had a lunch stop in Paso Robles at the Su Casa Mexican Restaurant. After lunch we motored over to Cambria on Highway 46 where we continued on to the Bluebird Inn.

Friday afternoon, we enjoyed adult beverages and snacks on the patio of the Bluebird Inn.  Dinner this year was “on your own”.  So many of us took the short walk down to our perennially favorite Cambria restaurants. Later that night we hung out around the firepit at the Bluebird.

On Saturday morning we drove down to Morro Bay and parked at the Wavelengths Surf Shop. We then headed over to Dorn’s Original Breakers Café for a hearty breakfast overlooking the water.  Joining the fun was National Woodie Club (NWC) past Presidents “Malibu” Bill Sampson and Wayne Yada.

Saturday night we drove down to Kathryn Benson’s where we enjoyed a fabulous Mexican themed dinner with olallieberry cake dessert from Linn’s Bakery.

The next SCW event will be the Santa Cruz Holiday Parade on Saturday December 3, 2022 followed by brunch and the envelope stuffing party at the Hilton’s.

NOTE: The annual installation dinner will be held on Saturday January 21, 2023 (date change) where yours truly will be installed for a second time as your new club President.

More information about both of these events will be forthcoming via email.

Until then…see you down the road.
